# What?

### What is Rewrite Text?

Rewrite Text helps you improve or redraft existing content in your open Word document. Instead of starting from scratch, you select the text you want to update and Rewrite Text works with that exact content to make changes that fit your drafting goals.

It highlights changes clearly: text added by ClauseBuddy is underlined and highlighted in green, while deleted text is crossed out in red. This makes it easy to see what has been modified.

You can rewrite entire paragraphs or just parts of them. You can also fill in placeholders in your document by uploading external files with relevant data, like party names or dates, which Rewrite Text then uses to complete the text automatically.

Rewrite Text lets you experiment by submitting new instructions to improve the draft or by replacing parts with previous versions until you get the result you want.

Because rewriting keeps the original styling and structure intact, it helps maintain consistency in your documents. The module also supports saving and loading your rewriting instructions for future use.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.clausebuddy.com/rewrite-text/what.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
